Change to the Infocus Topic List

As of this mailout, you will no longer receive a Syllabus Index as part of the Infocus Topic List. As the list of Infocus resources has grown, the print syllabus index has become less useful. For example, English resources now number more than 600 - much too long a list to browse meaningfully! Please remember to remove the Syllabus Index from your copy of the Topic List, as it is no longer accurate. Note, however, that should you wish to do so, you can still browse by syllabus on the Infocus website.

The Journey

Journeys, the Board of Studies Stimulus Booklet for Areas of Study HSC 2004 and 2005 is now on the web. The booklet can be downloaded from the Board's website (www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au), where you'll find it at the end of the long list of the HSC English syllabus and associated materials.
In the coming months, Infocus intends to offer some Journey-related resources. If you have some specific ideas about resources you'd find useful for this Area of Study, please let us know.

Farewell to Nadyne Eggleton

Infocus Education Officer Nadyne Eggleton recently left the State Library to accept a position with the Osaka City Board of Education as an Assistant Language Teacher. We were very sorry to say good-bye to her, but are envious of the exciting adventures she has ahead of her living and working in Japan. Nadyne made a significant contribution to Infocus, especially in clarifying and focusing the process of selecting new resources. We are awaiting news of a replacement for her.

What's On at the State Library?

Two new exhibitions at the State Library may be of interest to HSC students and teachers.

Champions: Australian Sporting Greats showcases a selection of photographs, letters and memorabilia from the Library's collections - supported by photographs from Getty Images - that will prompt memories of some of Australia's finest champions. The exhibition shows clearly that information comes in many forms, and that sport plays a significant part in the way people throughout New South Wales live. Champions is on display until 16 November 2003. For a sample of this exhibition, visit www.sl.nsw.gov.au/exhibitions/champions/

Max Dupain's Australians is the third exhibition at the Library featuring the extraordinary photographic legacy of our most celebrated photographer. When Dupain started photography in 1929 there was an emphasis on painterly, soft-hued romanticism. He was one of the first to break with that tradition and convert to the new photography from Europe, which used sharp focus, strong light and unusual perspectives to capture the modern era. Max Dupain's Australians features more than 40 rare photographs of people spanning six decades of his work. Max Dupain's Australians will be on display until 1 February 2004. For a taste, visit www.sl.nsw.gov.au/exhibitions/max_dupain/
