Huckleberry Finns 'moral crisis' is examined in item 2658.

Drama

IItem 2659 is an analysis of the complex themes of modernity and femininity in Jenny Kemp's Still Angela and Aboriginal performance pieces including The Seven Stages of Grieving are analysed in terms of their subversive power in Item 2660.

Modern History

Item 2642 discusses Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan's 1987 and 1988 summit meetings and Items 2643 and 2644 discuss independence and partition in India and Gandhi's role as a non-violent revolutionary. Leon Trotsky's role on the 1905 revolution is detailed in Items 2645 and 2646 and the effects of US nuclear testing on Bikini Atoll in the pacific is detailed in Item 2647.

This is an interesting resource for both ancient and modern history students. It is divided into three sections: Topics, Resources and Practical History and gives information on many historical events and personalities.

History Extension

Item 2648 takes a look at the rise of Elizabeth I and the strategies she used to protect her nation and secure her position.

Society and Culture

Issues of poverty in Africa are discussed from a sociological and economical perspective in Items 2637 and 2638. Item 2639 explores the role of music in social movements. Item 2640 discusses research that compares the lifestyles of young rural women to that of their city counterparts and in Item 2641 the life/work balance in today's society is questioned as it proposes work has become the new leisure.

Chemistry

This term we look at the issues in forensic chemistry. Item 2665 looks at the effects of environmental exposure on forensic samples and item 2666 looks at DNA based technologies and advances in DNA fingerprinting that can assist in criminal investigations

Engineering Studies

This is a new subject for Infocus. Item 2661 looks at aeronautical engineering focusing on the progression of the turbojet to the turbofan engine for both military and commercial use. Telecommunications are discussed in item 2662 which looks at software designed radio systems used for military communications and item 2663 discusses the technical side of High definition radio.

Earth and Environmental Science

Issues surrounding nuclear power are discussed this term. Item 2649 discusses the economics of nuclear power and compares the costs to other energy sources while Item 2650 discusses the safe disposal of nuclear waste. Item 2651 focuses on the political debate, discussing nuclear power as a response to global warming

Studies in Religion

Item 2636 is an extract on Islamic bioethics outlining some fundamental teachings of Islam that relate to bioethics. Another article on this topic can be accessed at www.cmaj.ca/cgi/reprint/164/1/60.pdf which discusses the framework of values that Muslims incorporate when making decisions about health.

Legal Studies

Issues covered in legal studies this term include euthanasia (Item 2667), rule of law, separation of powers and judicial decision making in Australia (Item 2668), protecting personal privacy (Item 2669), policing and public order (Item 2670) majority verdicts in NSW (Item 2671), parental status for co-mothers in lesbian relationships (Item 2672), and the notion of self defence as a legal defence for homicide in domestic violence situations (Item 2673). There are two new issues of Hot Topics this term. Item 2674 looks at sexual assault and Item 2675 looks at shelter.

The website gives access to a resource database, an online discussion forum and research briefs.
