This term we focus on Roberto Benigni's film Life is Beautiful. Item 2676 analyses the fourth unanswered riddle and how this contributes to the meaning of the film. Item 2677 examines the film through both aesthetic and moral frameworks and Item 2678 centres on criticism of the film and the idea of ownership of an event such as the 'Holocaust'.

We also take a look at the conventions of dialogue in fiction in Item 2679 and have included an article on the public and personal voice of Bruce Dawes' poetry. See Item 2680.

This site is a great virtual Shakespearean library. It gives detailed information on Shakespeare's life and plays. It also allows you to view and compare facsimiles of the first four folios.

Drama

Theatre practitioners are featured this term with Item 2681 discussing Jacques Lecoq, his unconventional methods and legacy to the theatre and Item 2682 examines Lecoq's use of the mask in theatre. Item 2683 discusses Japanese practitioner Tadashi Suzuki and his training methods and ideas.

Biology

Item 2613 discusses the planned construction of a "solar tower", by EnviroMission as one of the many renewable energy projects in Australia making "the country the global hotbed of alternative-energy entrepreneurship.

Modern History

Australian politician Dr Herbert Evatt is featured this term. Item 2684 discusses his public and political life and Item 2685 focuses on the events surrounding the Labour party split in 1955. Aspects of the Pacific War are also discussed. Item 2686 gives an overview of events from Pearl Harbour and Item 2687 discusses the American military operation that was set to bring about the end of the war.

Music

Item 2688 looks at the languages of Aboriginal Australians and how these are used in contemporary rock music to express identity. Item 2689 discusses the life and music of violinist Joshua Bell and Item 2690 looks at film composer Bernard Herrmann and his creative partnership with Alfred Hitchcock.

Society and Culture

Adolescent identity is discussed in Item 2691 as it looks at the roles of heroes and heroines in young people's lives. Item 2692 discusses the cult film Napoleon Dynamite and the portrayal of the teenage 'nerd' in film. The mechanics of social change in relation to environmental sustainability is discussed in Item 2693

Ancient History

Two articles look at Sennacherib's siege of Jerusalem. Items 2694 and 2695 examine the evidence that Sennacherib my have attacked Jerusalem twice and Item 2696 discusses these events as a deciding moment in history. Item 2697 discusses feasting practices in Bronze Age Cyprus and the impact of Mycenaean customs on Cypriot feasting rituals in the 14th and 12th centuries B.C.

Studies of Religion

We have included articles on the life and ideas of Hildegard of Bingen. Item 2698 discusses Hildegard of Bingen's ideas and how they are relevant to modern society. Item 2699 looks at her ideas in relation to nature and discusses humankind's role in protecting the natural environment. Item 2700 discusses aspects of her life an, personality and contribution to Christianity.

Senior Science

The decline in the world's water quality is discussed. Item 2701 looks at the problem of excessive growth of seaweeds in waterways. Item 2702 looks at the role of setting water quality targets for the Great Barrier Reef catchments and Item 2703 discusses ocean dead zones.

Business Studies

Item 2704 discusses Indigenous Cultural Micro-Enterprises (ICME) marketing and the attributes that make it effective. Item 2705 looks at customer perceptions of 'green' products and their affects on corporate strategies and Item 2706 discusses trade union values and their purpose and scope in Australian unions.

Chemistry

Item 2707 looks at the impact of a biofuels industry in Australia on food production, health and the environment.

Legal Studies

There are two new issues of Hot Topics included this term. They are Item 2709 which looks at developments of law in relation to terrorism and Item 2710 which looks at different aspects of drugs and the law.

World Press Photo 2007

This exhibition features award-winning photographs from the 50th annual World Press Photo contest.

This year 4460 professional photographers from 124 countries entered 78 083 images in this prestigious competition for press photography. Prizes were awarded in 10 theme categories to 58 photographers of 23 nationalities, including two Australian photographers: Craig Golding and Steve Christo.

The international jury selected a colour image by the US photographer Spencer Platt of Getty Images as World Press Photo of the Year 2006.

Opening hours for this exhibition will be:

9-5 Monday - Friday

11-5 Saturday - Sunday

There will be extended hours on the Wednesdays 16th, 23rd and 30th of May where hours will be 9-8pm.
