Vaniman Panorama

Free exhibition
Open: 20 June 2009 - 31 January 2010

The Vaniman Panorama exhibition features enlargements of twelve of the 60-70 panoramas produced by Vaniman during his time in Australia.

Melvin Vaniman (1866-1912) arrived in Sydney in 1903 and spent a year, on and off, photographing the city and harbour. His distinctive panoramas were nearly always taken from high above the ground and if a nearby building or ship's mast were not at hand he erected his own thirty-meter pole to achieve a birds-eye view.

This exhibition is particularly interesting for students of Senior Geography.
