This analysis of women's role in World War II discusses the attitudes of various government departments towards the use of women in war related jobs. It was only after the Fall of Singapore in 1942, when the threat of invasion became a possibility, that the Manpower authority was established to direct and co-ordinate all labour resources. The Australian Women's Land Army was established to help provide food, as Australia was viewed as a supply depot for troops stationed in Queensland. Included in the article are reminiscences of several land army girls. This item can be purchased separately or as part of Australian Women and World War II kit -- Infocus Item 1269
